PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
June 2007

When I was in grade school, it always seemed like the summers ended so quickly.  This is how I feel about this past year.  It seems like only a yesterday that I was at Shanty Creek trying to calm my nerves before I stood before you to thank you for your support.  I now look forward to the induction of Chief Pat Wyman as he begins his term as President.  I know that he will do a fine job and represent the Association with professionalism and integrity.

This past year has been very exciting, rewarding, and at times challenging.  I have had the opportunity to meet and learn from people who are at the top of their professions.  I have had the opportunity to represent the Association at functions such as the IACP Conference in Boston and the Great Lakes Gun Violence Summit in Chicago.  After far too many hours to count, we still continue to work on the Public Safety Funding Coalition in an effort to secure funding for CJIS Policy Council, Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards, Prosecuting Attorneys Coordinating Council and the State Fire Marshal & Fire Services.

I would like to thank all of you for your support and help as I prepared for my role as President.  I was very fortunate to have guidance from many of you as questions and issues presented themselves.  To the members of Mid-Michigan Chiefs Association and District 7, thank you for your help and support.  I could not have accomplished this without you.  I would like to thank the entire Board of Directors for your dedication to the success of this Association.  Tom Hendrickson, Executive Director, and Jamie Foster, Administrative Assistant, have been invaluable throughout this year.  I am grateful to each of them for the work they did to help not only me but also the entire Association.  Without these two dedicated people, the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police would not have the high level of professionalism that it enjoys.

Thank you very much for the opportunity to serve as President of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police.  I will always be proud of and cherish this time in my career.  There is no finer organization or group of professionals.  It has been truly a pleasure and my honor to serve during this past year.

President Kay Hoffman, the 81st MACP President made history by becoming the association's first female President when she was sworn in on June 28, 2006.
