2008 Youth Scholarship Winner
Ms. Alexsandra Hermans was presented a check in the amount of $2,000.00 at the Michigan Association Chiefs of Police Annual Conference during the Installation and Awards Banquet, Monday, June 23, 2008 at Boyne Highlands Resort in Harbor Springs, MI.
Ms. Hermans is a 2008 graduate of Herbert Henry Dow High School in Midland, MI with a 4.0 GPA. When asked on her application to provide a biographical sketch Ms. Hermans described herself using three words: “Diverse, motivated and bubbly”. She provided the following examples to explain the three words:
Diverse: She has lived on a farm for the past ten years-raising beef cattle and sheep. Livestock and 4-H has taught her many valuable life lessons. In high school, she was asked to help start a youth coalition for the prevention of underage drinking. START has now grown to have members from three high schools and is reaching out to the Midland community annually.
Motivated: Ms Hermans describes herself as a very motivated person. Throughout high school she maintained approximately a 4.0 GPA while staying involved in both her high school and community
Bubbly: Ms. Hermans says bubbly is not a word one would normally use but she thinks it fits her perfectly. Each project she does or activity she takes part in, she approaches with a positive attitude. She loves to smile and spread her enthusiasm to the youth and adults she works with.
Ms. Hermans plans to attend Michigan State University in the fall of 2008 and pursue a business degree.
